Norrköping: Humans & Self-portraits
Humans. In twenty-one locations around Sweden the Museum of Work has started a collaboration between immigrant organisations, working – life museums and study groups. By working together the local groups have depicted migration into their locality. During the summer of 2001 they showed their exhibitions locally. During 2002 the exhibitions will gather in Norrköping where the results and findings of the local work will be discussed and analysed in programmes and seminars. After that the exhibitions will tour in Sweden.
Irene Arvidsson (maiden name Hjelm) Irene was born 1947 in Kälviä in Finland. In 1965 she moved to Borås. She was supposed to stay for one year, taking care of her elderly sisters son. Before she came to Sweden she knew no Swedish. Irene remained in Borås and worked as a seamstress for 30 years. In 1993 she retired due to an industrial injury. Irene still lives in Borås.
