Manchester
Throughout the second half of the 20th century thousands of people from the Caribbean and South Asia started new lives in Manchester. The exhibition, Moving Lives, will use photographs, memorabilia, recordings and film to represent aspects of the life and history of the Caribbean communities in the region.
The People’s History Museum has been connecting with the community through drama performances by Gabrielle, one of the museum’s Living History characters. In Moving Stories the museum will work with Greater Manchester’s South Asian communities. The exhibition will feature stunning new photographs and oral histories.
Gabrielle, one of the People’s History Museum’s Living History characters. Her story is based on the real-life stories of three women who moved from the Caribbean to Manchester in the 1950s. Gabrielle acts out her life story to groups of school children and museum visitors who interact with her and help her decide whether to take the plunge and move to England. |
